When it comes to family planning and contraception, there are many different options available. At DrSnip, we are happy to discuss these options with you, and you can always talk with your doctor as well. There are both temporary and permanent solutions. If you’re wanting a more permanent solution, a vasectomy could be a great option.

In making the decision of whether vasectomy is right for you, it’s important to understand that vasectomy is not an easy procedure to reverse. It should only be chosen if you’ve decided not to have any (or more) children.

While no one can predict the future, it’s important to consider the possibility of unforeseen changes in your life or the lives of your partner and children. We consider vasectomy to be a permanent procedure.

If you are thinking of vasectomy as an option for you, DrSnip can help! We offer this service in the Greater San Francisco area and are happy to assist in answering any questions.

Why Choose a Vasectomy:

  • It is a quick and effective procedure to achieve permanent sterility.
  • It is incredibly safe and is performed about 500,000 times annually in the United States.
  • 99.5% effective.
  • It does not affect a man’s sex drive, hormones, or sexual performance.

Things To Consider:

  • It is a permanent procedure, so you likely won’t be able to reverse it once you get it done.
  • It can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months after the procedure before you are completely sterile.
  • It doesn’t protect you against sexually transmitted infections, so you must still use condoms after the procedure.
  • You will have to abstain from sex on the day of your procedure but can begin engaging in gentle sex within the week after.
  • It can cause severe cramps, mild discomfort, and minor swelling or bruising. You will want to rest and abstain from any strenuous activity for 7 days following the procedure.

What If I Want My Vasectomy Reversed?

Getting a vasectomy is a very big, life-altering decision. We consider vasectomy to be a permanent procedure.

However, If your life plan changes unexpectedly, the options for having children after a vasectomy include adoption, attempted vasectomy reversal, or pregnancy by artificial insemination using either frozen stored sperm, fresh donor sperm, or sperm surgically withdrawn from the testes.

All forms of assisted fertility involve a considerable commitment of resources and are not generally covered by health insurance

The Vasectomy Procedure

Our procedure is quick, effective, and minimally invasive. We do not use a scalpel, nor even a needle for anesthetic.

The entry point is so small we completely numb the area using a hypospray device, which injects a tiny stream of lidocaine through the skin using pressure alone. Just two quick “pops,” one for each vas, and you are instantly and thoroughly numb.

We achieve the most successful result while affecting as little as possible. We use the same entry point to access both vas deferens. No tissue is removed, nor permanent clips left inside.

What our patients are saying

Andrew Bye

I was referred by my primary physician, who even recommended them over their own in house operation. Dr. White was my doctor and he was fantastic, as well as the rest of the staff! They are well oiled machine with great customer service. This was my first surgery of any kind and they took the time to explain everything to me and answer and questions or concerns. This really helped calm my nerves. I even ended up chatting about music with one of the nurses who helped get me set up while I waited. During the procedure Dr. White was very attentive to my comfort level and made the experience as quick and painless as possible. I strongly recommend Dr. Snip to anyone thinking about the procedure!

Erik Ryason

The whole procedure went well. No issues or complaints at all. The team was super professional and helpful. 11/10 recommend.
