DrSnip has an outpatient clinic conveniently located in Portland

We want your experience to be simple and convenient. We offer morning and afternoon appointments weekly, including Saturdays. For patients with atypical working hours or who travel frequently, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

When it comes to family planning and contraception, there are many different options available. At Dr.Snip, we are happy to discuss these options with you, and you can always talk with your doctor as well. There are both temporary and permanent solutions. If you’re wanting a more permanent solution, a vasectomy could be a great option.

In making the decision of whether vasectomy is right for you, it’s important to understand that vasectomy is not an easy procedure to reverse. It should only be chosen if you’ve decided not to have any (or more) children.

While no one can predict the future, it’s important to consider the possibility of unforeseen changes in your life or the lives of your partner and children. We consider vasectomy to be a permanent procedure.

If you are thinking of vasectomy as an option for you, Dr.Snip can help! We offer this service in the Portland area and are happy to assist in answering any questions.

Why Choose a Vasectomy:

  • It is a quick and effective procedure to achieve permanent sterility.
  • It is incredibly safe and is performed about 500,000 times annually in the United States.
  • 99.5% effective.
  • It does not affect a man’s sex drive, hormones, or sexual performance.

Things To Consider:

  • It is a permanent procedure, so you likely won’t be able to reverse it once you get it done.
  • It can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months after the procedure before you are completely sterile.
  • It doesn’t protect you against sexually transmitted infections, so you must still use condoms after the procedure.
  • You will have to abstain from sex on the day of your procedure but can begin engaging in gentle sex within the week after.
  • It can cause severe cramps, mild discomfort, and minor swelling or bruising. You will want to rest and abstain from any strenuous activity for 7 days following the procedure.

What If I Want My Vasectomy Reversed?

Getting a vasectomy is a very big, life-altering decision. We consider vasectomy to be a permanent procedure.

However, If your life plan changes unexpectedly, the options for having children after a vasectomy include adoption, attempted vasectomy reversal, or pregnancy by artificial insemination using either frozen stored sperm, fresh donor sperm, or sperm surgically withdrawn from the testes.

All forms of assisted fertility involve a considerable commitment of resources and are not generally covered by health insurance

The Vasectomy Procedure

Our procedure is quick, effective, and minimally invasive. We do not use a scalpel, nor even a needle for anesthetic.

The entry point is so small we completely numb the area using a hypospray device, which injects a tiny stream of lidocaine through the skin using pressure alone. Just two quick “pops,” one for each vas, and you are instantly and thoroughly numb.

We achieve the most successful result while affecting as little as possible. We use the same entry point to access both vas deferens. No tissue is removed, nor permanent clips left inside.

What our patients are saying

Elliott Karr

Dr Snip was a great experience for me— it’s newer to the Portland area and so reviews may be limited, but I am here to say if you’re ready for the snip… go here! I had originally tried to have my procedure with Planned Parenthood but the waiting list was over 6months out so I opted to look around at other options. I found Dr Snip from a quick Google search and called for an appointment.

Things I liked — They are very quick to get you scheduled (2ish weeks for me) and make the process a single day ordeal. They are very transparent with your upfront cost, no surprises after the visit. You pay upfront and you’re out the door. They are very professional about how they handle the process and are great about making as comfortable of an experience as possible. The procedure is quick, the recovery was minimal, and the doctor made sure to call and check up with me the next day to make sure everything was on the mend. In conclusion, having my vasectomy at Dr Snip was the ideal situation for having it done in PDX and I have already told my friends about my experience so they know where to go in the future.

Easy, quick. No issues. Staff and MD were awesome. Great follow up and support if needed. Would highly recommend. Hardly any recovery time.

Matt Vogel

Not the most exciting thing to have done, but they made it very comfortable. Dr even called to check up on me the day after which I thought was a nice touch.

Will definitely recommend them to others who are in need of a snip

Jarrod Reeves

Was much quicker and easier than I expected. Total time was less than an hour for Covid Test, Consultation and procedure. So far everything is going good with it. Had done on Saturday which was nice and back to work on Monday. Highly recommend this place.

Honestly the best experience I could’ve asked for. I have nothing bad to say at all. Everyone was really nice! Dr. Klotz did a great job! He was very easy to talk to, very careful and mindful during the surgery. I would recommend Dr. Snip without a doubt!

Kevin Parnow

Extremely professional, clean, and comfortable. A 10/10 experience! Dr. Klutz and all the assistants at the Portland clinic were super helpful in answering all my questions and explaining the procedure to me. Nearly painless and the healing process was a breeze, even received a follow up phone call from the doc the following day to make sure I was doing well. Would recommend to anyone who’s decided to move forward with a vasectomy.
