Your Guide to a Vasectomy in Portland

Here's The DrSnip Guide to a Vasectomy in the Portland Area

Consider Family Planning Options:

There are many different options for family planning and contraception, and both temporary and permanent solutions exist. You should speak to your primary care provider about these options. We can also discuss them with you.

If you are considering if vasectomy is right for you, it’s important to understand that vasectomy is not an easy procedure to reverse. You should only get a vasectomy if you’ve decided not to have any more children.

When considering family planning, a vasectomy is a great permanent option. And DrSnip is here to help. We offer vasectomy services in Portland area and can answer any questions you have.

Why Choose a Vasectomy:

  • It’s a quick (~15-minute) and effective procedure to achieve permanent sterility.
  • It’s incredibly safe and performed more than 500,000 times annually in the United States.
  • It’s more than 99.5% effective.
  • It does not affect a man’s sex drive, hormones, or sexual performance.

Things To Remember When Planning Your Vasectomy:

  • You will need to go home after your procedure and rest. The next day, you can get back on your feet.
  • Arrange for a driver to take you home after your vasectomy. For safety, you are not permitted to drive yourself home after your procedure.
  • Continue to use other forms of birth control right after your procedure. Semen testing is completed after at least 8 weeks and 15 ejaculations.

What If I Want Children After Getting A Vasectomy?

We consider vasectomy to be a permanent procedure.

However, if your life plan changes unexpectedly, there are options for having children after a vasectomy. These include attempting vasectomy reversal, adoption, or pregnancy by artificial insemination using either frozen stored sperm, fresh donor sperm, or sperm surgically withdrawn from the testes.

All forms of assisted fertility involve a considerable commitment of resources and are not generally covered by health insurance. These factors should be considered before choosing to get a vasectomy.

The DrSnip Vasectomy Technique

Our procedure is quick, effective, and minimally invasive. We do not use a scalpel, nor even a needle for anesthetic.

The entry point is so small we completely numb the area using a hypospray device, which injects a tiny stream of lidocaine through the skin using pressure alone. Just two quick “pops,” one for each vas, and you are instantly and thoroughly numb.

We achieve the most successful result while affecting as little as possible. We use the same entry point to access both vas deferens. No tissue is removed, nor permanent clips inserted.
